How to Check the License Manager Version

The following steps will help you determine if a Sentinel RMS License Manager is already installed on your server and, if so, which RMS version is installed.

Determining if a License Manager is installed

First, use the Windows Services application to determine if a Sentinel RMS License Manager is installed:

  1. Open the Windows Services application.

  2. Sort the Services list by Name by clicking the Name column header.

  3. Scroll through the list and locate the Sentinel RMS License Manager service.

If there is no Sentinel RMS License Manager service listed, then install the License Manager. If you found a Sentinel RMS License Manager service, continue to the next section to determine the RMS version.

Determining the RMS version

Next, continue using the Services application to locate the License Manager executable.

  1. Right-click the Sentinel RMS License Manager service and click Properties in the context menu.

  2. Locate the Path to executable value on the General page of the Sentinel RMS License Manager Properties dialog.

  3. Open the Windows File Explorer.

  4. Navigate to the folder containing the lservnt.exe file you found in step 2. The default path is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel RMS License Manager\WinNT\".

  5. Right-click lservnt.exe and click Properties in the context menu.

  6. Click the Details tab at the top of the lservnt.exe Properties dialog.

  7. Locate the File version value.

If the File version is equal to or greater than the latest version in the compatibility table, you do not need to install the License Manager. You can proceed to installing the License Administrator. However, if the File version is not compatible with the Golden Software products, you must upgrade the License Manager by following the License Manager installation instructions.

Backward Compatibility

See the table in the About the RMS License Manager topic for more information on Sentinel RMS License Manager and Golden Software application compatibility.
